Yuck's new song "Middle Sea" almost hijacked this week's SOTW the pick, its distinct '90's sound and excellent guitar work making it a surprising comeback for the British trio, whose lead singer recently departed the group. But since the track technically wasn't released for download in the US as of writing this post, it will instead be considered next week, as the new Cults single is worth noting as well. "I Can Hardly Make You Mine" is a flawless combination of two unlikely genres; the instrumentals are clearly influenced by psychedelia, while Madeline Follin's vocals recall the sounds of Motown. If by some hole in the space-time continuum Tame Impala did a duet with The Supremes, this it what it would sound like. It is somewhat of a departure from their earlier songs, the most well-known of which is their breakthrough hit "Go Outside," but I think it's definitely a step in the right direction. The Manhattan two-piece's Static drops later this year, joining a bevy of promising fall releases during an already loaded 2013. Listen to "I Can Hardly Make You Mine" below.
